Hi crafty friends. It’s Kristine and today I’ll be sharing with you the first of my projects using the Pink Christmas collection. This collection is by Stamperia, and it is full of shabby chic images. The beautiful pink tones give Christmas a softer feel, and the images have a Victorian and vintage feel to them. So much can be done with these gorgeous images but today we will be making a Christmas card!
In my first project, I will be using only the 8” x 8” paper pad and a few images from the Collectables papers. The step-by-step tutorial below will show you some basic techniques for paper piecing and layering. However, I will also be using a decorative edge die to add a bit of texture. Border punches can also be used, or you can skip this step and make your card square.
Supply List
Stamperia Pink Christmas 8” x 8” paper pad
Stamperia Pink Christmas Collectables paper
Light pink cardstock
Pink Distress Ink
Decorative border die or border punch
Buttons Galore & More Shimmerz in Snow Squall
Liquid Pearls in pink
Stickles in Diamond
Lace trim to match the paper
Creating the Card Base
First, use the decorative border die or border punch to create the white lacy piece for the card edge.
Next, trim a piece of light pink cardstock to the same size as the border piece. In my card, this measurement is 5 3/4” x 8 1/2”. Then, place the border on the edge of the pink cardstock. I trimmed my pink cardstock so the outer lace piece was sticking off the card. Then, score the pink cardstock vertically to make the card base.
Decorating the Pink Christmas Card
Now, we will begin cutting the decorative papers. First, cut out one of the journaling card images from the 8” x 8” paper. The beautiful vintage Christmas tree image caught my eye so I will be using it for my card. I also cut out the Merry Christmas sentiment, Christmas ornaments, and a small postage stamp from the Collectables paper (pictured later).
Then, we will select a coordinating paper, and in my case, I am using the aqua paper with small floral print. Next, cut the piece to the same height as your card (mine is 5 3/4”), but only overlapping slightly with the border die. I am using Worn Lipstick Distress Ink for the edges of my papers.
Finally, cut out the lace border strip on the opposite side of the aqua paper. Ink the edges on all cut pieces to give the papers more definition once the card is assembled.
Now comes the fun part - putting it all together! To start, glue the lace border piece to the back edge of the aqua background paper. Then, glue the entire piece to the lefthand side of the card. Depending on the decorative border you create, you may need to place your pieces slightly different than mine.
Add the Christmas tree journaling card to the center. I also used a scalloped border punch to create a small strip to go behind my main image. Then, add the lace trim down the lefthand side of the card, hiding the edge of the aqua paper. Using foam square for dimension, place the postage stamp on the top left corner. Next, glue the white fussy cut Christmas ornament to the side of the Merry Christmas sentiment. Add foam squares and place on the bottom of the card.
Finishing Touches
The little extras that are added next really do make a handmade card unique and beautiful. There are so many options at this stage, so feel free to mix it up and use whatever you already have. First, I am placing 5 iridescent snowflakes around the lace of my card. Then, I will use Liquid Pearls in pink to create tiny pearl drops in the centers of each snowflake. Next, I will add drops along each of the pearl strands on the Christmas tree. Finally, I applied a thin layer of Diamond Stickles along the righthand edge between the snowflakes and on the scalloped piece on the left of the card.
For the inside, I cut out the Santa sleigh image and the With Love sentiment and the floral border strip. This arrangement adds decoration, but is still functional for writing a message. Don’t forget to add a few fussy cut pieces to the envelope, too! I cut out two pink Christmas ornaments and glued one to the front lefthand corner of the envelope. The other is glued over the flap where the envelope will seal.
I hope that you have enjoyed this tutorial. I tried to keep the card as flat as possible so it is easier to mail. The foam squares will give the front some dimension, but the card is not too bulky and fits in a regular envelope.
