Hi crafty friends. It’s Kristine and I’m back today with another project share for you. This one is a simple layout using some of the embellishments from the Lemon Twist collection. Since I don’t have the Lemon Twist papers, I will show you how to use any paper from your stash with embellishments from the collection. Simple Stories produces several options for embellishments to match the Lemon Twist paper collection. So, you can mix and match to make a variety of looks for your layouts and projects.
For my layout today, I will be featuring just two of the embellishments from the Lemon Twist collection. First, we will focus on the Page Pieces from the collection. This packet contains 15 large die cut pieces that make designing layouts simple! Then, we will also focus on how to use the Decorative Brads on a layout. This packet comes with 26 metal self-adhesive brads and 6 chipboard stickers.
Designing Your Layout
There are many options that you can use for background papers in your layout. For example, if you really want the embellishments to stand out, then you may choose a plain white cardstock. For a bolder look, you might even choose a black cardstock. However, I want my layout to remind me of summertime, much like the Lemon Twist embellishments do. When I see these embellishments, I think of drinking fresh squeezed lemonade on a sunny summer day. Hence, I chose to use a yellow patterned cardstock for my background.
Once you decide on your background, choose a coordinating color for your layout. With a white background, consider yellow, teal, or black coordinating cardstock. For a black background, yellow or teal would work well. If you are like me and using yellow, then teal or black will help the embellishments stand out. I found a plain teal color that matches the teal in the embellishments and cut them to 1/4” larger than my photos. Then, I backed them on a patterned teal and white paper to give my layout just a hint of white.
Adding the Embellishments
Once you have your photo mats, place them on the page. Starting with the large “Squeeze the Day” piece, add the title to your page. I chose to add it to the top of the page. However, I also considered adding it to the bottom of the page. Decide what works best for your photo arrangement. Next, add the large lemon piece near the title piece.
Then, place the long “Life is Sweet” piece along the bottom of one of your photo mats. Using the large piece with the lemon soda label, place the piece on your layout. Since I don’t have any photos in my layout yet, I did not glue any of the pieces to the front of the photo mats and the photo will tuck behind it.
Add the smaller pieces to the layout. First, I added the two butterflies to the top right corner. Then, make a cluster with the banner, sweet moments sentiment, and black heart die cuts. Finally, add the three bee die cuts around the layout. Now, we are ready to add the decorative brads. I added three of the metal brads toward the bottom of my layout. Then, I added the floral chipboard sticker underneath the “Life is Sweet” piece. A second chipboard sticker is placed on the upper righthand photo mat. Finally, I added two of the small black brads to the corners of two photo mats.
Finishing Touches
In order to finish your layout, consider adding some color to the edges of your background. To add a bit more teal, I edged my yellow background paper with Coastal Surf Nuvo Mousse. However, if you are using a white background, you may also consider a yellow color such as Lemon Sorbet Nuvo Mousse. Finally, add your photos to complete your layout!
With just two products from the Lemon Twist collection, you can make a simple yet stunning layout. These embellishments are perfect for those summertime photos. I hope this post has helped you to think of how you can use some of your embellishments, even if you don’t have matching paper!
