Hi crafty friends. I am having a blast decorating with the God Bless America collection by Carta Bella. First, I made some adorable Julie Nutting dolls and dressed them in patriotic patterns from the collection. Then, I showed you how to create a banner to decorate the house for the holiday. Today, I’m showing you how to capture the day for years to come with a double layout for your scrapbook!
In my previous projects, I’ve been using the 6” x 6” paper pad. However, today, I will be featuring the 12” x 12” paper from the God Bless America collection. These paper have a great texture to them and the colors are vibrant. I love the traditional Americana color scheme in this collection. The collection kit offers 12 double sided papers, one of each design, and a sticker sheet. The downside about the collection is they’re so pretty that one sheet of each isn’t enough!
Simple Yet Stunning Double Layout
Sometimes the simplest design has a stunning effect when it comes to making a double layout. In designing my 4th of July layout, I wanted to keep it simple to showcase the photos and papers. To achieve this, I started with two pieces of Velvet Night from this collection of blue cardstock by My Minds Eye. I will be using the Sky color for photo mats on my double layout. Next, I selected various pieces from the ephemera and Frames & Tags packs. Then, I cut the USA border strip and two cut-apart cards from the paper sheets. Finally, I fussy cut two of the banners from the banner page in the collection.
In a double layout, I like the pages to be coordinated. Since there is only one piece of each 12” x 12” paper, I will use several different papers on each page. First, I cut the star paper into three 4” x 12” strips. The red polka dot paper is perfect to emphasize my photos, and I will use the 6” x 6” sheet for a photo mat on the second page. Using the navy firecracker paper, I cut one small strip for a border on the bottom of my first page. For the center of the second page, I cut a larger strip. My double layout holds four photos on each page so I organized them into rows. I find this method helps keep my layout organized, and I can also add the decorative elements throughout.
The Little Details
Personally, I feel that it’s the little “extra” details that make a project stand out. For my double layout, I am using foam squares on the banner pieces to give them dimension. Also, the ephemera pieces are popped up on foam squares for dimension. Throughout both pages on the double layout, I glued patriotic Sprinkletz on top of the papers. The stars add a cute embellishment to the photo mats and banners.
